diyskateparks.net is an archive of DIY skateparks in the USA. It documents parks created by people that serve as public recreational areas. DIY skateparks are places to hang out, work with concrete, skate, drink beer.
Rents are rising, property is being monopolized by private equity, and municipalities across America are unable to develop meaningful public spaces. DIY skateparks are a way to take back control of our surroundings and create the environment we want to live in. They are a way to turn the forgotten and unwanted lots into community areas.
DIY skateparks usually get constructed without municipal support or approval. Subsequently, they get torn down without proper documentation. This project aims to change that.
